Mehndi is the traditional art of henna painting in India and the Middle East. It is also written as mehandi, mehendi, mehndi, henna, al-henna and a variety of other names and spellings. In Indian Mehendi, a person uses designs especially for favorable occasions on a woman’s hands and feet. Recently, henna artists from the United States have used the term “henna body art” to describe art. All these words describe the same timeless art form, body painting for festive occasions.
At Indian weddings, special Mehendi ceremonies are celebrated. These are Indian varieties in Mehndi, while Simple Arabic Mehandi designs for girls emphasize their great, bold designs. Some unique designs are also made with veil and net styles, snowflakes, spirals and wavy lines that give the Mehndi a great touch. Some artists use dots and short lines to fill gaps in Mehndi, and others even use checks and flowers to complete the designs. Some women bring a special design with sparkling and diamond-studded Mehndi designs.
